Lately my mother has been calling me nonstop to ask me what i thought of "other people's baby shower ideas"... I know what she is doing... she has an idea, passes it off as someone else's to see what my reaction is. I told her a while ago (before I even got pregnant) that I wanted to have a Luau themed baby shower or a beach party themed one because I live near the beach, I was born in the summer and chances are that this little guy is going to be too if what the doctor said is true about his size.
I wasn't so much a bridezilla when I got married, but I did take on the responsibility of doing a lot of things myself just to make sure that things were as close to perfect as possible. Didn't work out so good since I stayed up too late the night before putting together my wedding program books that I woke up late causing me to be an hour late to my own wedding.
Anyway, I dropped some hints as to what I like and what I would like at this baby shower. So far, all I know is that there will be inflatable giraffes at this party.... Don't know HOW giraffes got on the island of Hawaii or even had beach parties, but I have told myself to let momma bear (well momma momma bear) to take the reigns on this one. As long as there is no Winnie the Pooh (everyone uses Winnie, but Tigger gets the shaft), I'll be happy. Don't get me wrong, I like that chubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff, but when you tell someone that you are using a Pooh theme for your nursery, you get 5 different styles and it doesn't look put together, just looks like a grenade went off and irregular bits of Pooh and Hunny shrapnel flew all over the room and attempted to look like a concise motif. God bless the bear and Pooh in moderation is great, but some people can OD on it.
So back to my mom's phone calls, I've been trying to bust my brain to figure out when this baby shower is going to happen. My baby shower (as in the one thrown for my mom when she was pregnant with me) happenened the weekend my mom was supposed to go on maternity leave, I decided that a party wasn't a party til I walked through and came out the weekend before, so I was at my baby shower. I'm due in September... it is now June and my midwife is thinking August is going to be the month of birth since she thinks he's going to be a 10lbs baby if i carry him to 40 weeks. That leaves the rest of this month, July and perhaps the beginning of August to throw this shindig. My maternity leave starts August 7th, the plot thickens because my mom keeps asking me if I have any idea where they are going to throw my sis-in-law's niece's shower at (she is 2 weeks behind me) and they are having it on the 7th of August. If I didn't know any better I think my mom is trying to throw me off. I tried to ask my husband but he says that he has no clue either, so he's useless... *looks down at belly* well for information at least.
I have broken down to tactics I used when I was a kid to try to get the information. Last weekend I tried the first trick, I first start talking about something and get mom really involved in the conversation and then BOOM I ask her "when's my baby shower" to catch her off guard. That didn't work. I also tried giving her an agenda of what my summer is going to be and how "busy" I was on weekends to get a gauge of her reaction to specific dates... yeah nada! I even tried calling her in the middle of the night to try to get her when she's sleepy to see if she slips out the date, pfffft this woman is a pro! She made herself a night owl so I can't catch her off guard or she tells me that she is watching her "novelas" (spanish soap opera) and if there is one thing I've learned in life, it is to NEVER interrupt a Latina woman when she is watching her novela. But I will say that I think she felt sorry for me trying to figure this out, or maybe she didn't want to get a sty for denying a pregnant woman something she asked for, but she told me that it will be a 3pm. SCORE! I can still take my 12 noon nap and still be good for the party... i just need to make sure that I look nice from here on out every weekend because i've been going out of the house looking ROUGH!
Part of me wants to know when it is, but part of me doesn't. I did this as a kid, I was so determined to find my Christmas presents in the house that when I did find some, it took away the magic on Christmas morning and I know that part of my mom's joy came from seeing my reaction to the gifts, so it hurt when I had to fake it.
Lesson of the day, don't go searching for answers to the question you know in your heart you don't want the answer to.
My trials, tribulations, experiences and rants during my third trimester of pregnancy ... kick by kick

Hi I'm Ely's baby and I like to Kick and streeetch and KICK!
Hey everyone my name is Elynette and I am now entering my 3rd (and final) trimester of pregnancy. My little guy was so excited to welcome me to this final stage that he kicked me right in the left ovary while stretching under my right ribs... ahhh motherhood. I thank God everyday for giving me this blessing, but there are those times when I can't help (seriously the hormones make it impossible) but to comment on the comedy, pains and all around craziness that is my first pregnancy.
I hope that you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoy sharing, and if you have anything negative to say remember that you are saying it to a pregnant woman who is very emotional, you really want to make a pregnant woman cry? Jerk! What would your mother say?!!
Finally, I hope to bring some reality and comfort to others who may be pregnant and are feeling a bit isolated with some of their thoughts, and I hopefully bring some cheer to my readers who may be having a bad "preggy" day, because honestly there are times where you can only get a laugh from someone who is going through the same thing.
